Ho'oponopono

Ho'oponopono is a Hawaiian ancestral mantra with the underlying intention to correct situations or make things right.

Oftentimes, our inner peace is blocked because we have so much frustration or resentment from past hurts and misunderstandings.

Allowing yourself to let go of old anger, grief, and stress around particular people or events can be life-changing and personally transforming.

Ho'oponopono is intended to facilitate reconciliation and self-healing within troubled relationships.

The four powerful phrases (I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you, and I love you) act as a clearing technique to promote forgiveness and enhance overall life improvement.

You can do the exercise as follows:

1. Take a few seconds to ground your energy and breathe deeply into your belly.

2. Connect with your soul's essence in your heart center, and imagine a beautiful light glowing in your heart space.

3. Identify a list of people in your life whom you've had strained relationships with in the past. Remember to include yourself, your partner, children, parents, in-laws, siblings, step-family members, friends, bosses, coworkers, and any others whom you had arguments with or difficult relationships with.

4. You can use your phone's contact list or camera roll to start with the first 10-20 people.

5. When you view each person's picture or name or have an image of them in your mind, say the 4 phrases to yourself. You can summon the energy of your whole self - your lower ego, your waking conscious, plus your higher spiritual self. Direct the intention towards self-transformation. See yourself and past memories from a place of neutrality and observation, not judgement or criticism. You are empowering yourself by dissipating the self-imposed restraints.

- I'm sorry.
- Please forgive me.
- Thank you.
- I love you.

6. As you're saying the Ho'oponopono mantra for each person, feel the palpable emotional resistance dissolve and release from your energy system. This healing mantra is self-directed so you can start the process of resolution within your own being. Your personal efforts and results will have a positive, energetic effect on those involved.

7. Imagine your heart center opening up and breaking down the layers of pain that have been built up over the years. The spiritual and personal growth is for you, but the ritual is powerful enough that the energy can work universally on others as well.

Taking five minutes today to do this exercise can help shift heavy energy so that you feel greater peace of mind and peace in your heart.

You can even say this prayer in a more spontaneous fashion. For example, if someone cuts you off in traffic, makes a sarcastic comment to you, or pushes your hot buttons, take a minute and recite the four phrases in your head or out loud - I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you. Let it resonate within your own beliefs, emotions, and energy as an unfolding of your own accountability, evolution, and awareness.
